During nutrition breaks, students spend half of their time in the cafeteria eating lunch, and the other 20 minutes outside on the yard.
If you don’t want to go outside, you might do open gym / intramurals, or get involved in a club / activity.
Here’s what you need to know about being outside.
School Yard Boundaries
(Purple areas are where you are allowed to go on the yard)
School Yard Boundaries – Out of bounds
(The exact same map, but this time, red areas show you where you are not allowed to go during nutrition break.)
How do we know when it’s time to go inside?
The teachers on duty will blow their whistles three times to indicate that it is time to go inside.
Which doors do we use to go into the school?
PLEASE go in using “DOORS F” – check out the map above to see where this is.
Use the proper doors when coming in. Over-crowding causes problems.
What if I have to use the washroom?
Nutrition break is a great time to use the washroom.
- Please ask a teacher on duty if you have to use the washroom.
- Please use DOORS F to enter the building and use the closest washrooms on the first floor.
Can I hang out with my friends at my locker?
No. Students need to be outside where there is supervision, not hanging out in the hallways or washrooms.
Can I bring my backpack outside?
Backpacks stay in the lockers, only bring materials you need for class. This helps to keep you organized.
Can I feed the seagulls? Can I bring food outside?
Please don’t. Who really likes seagulls? Put any garbage that you have outside in the bins. You know that there is not supposed to be food outside, but sometimes we forget to throw out our garbage.
What if I have to go see a teacher for extra help / detention?
…

need to decide as a staff what procedure we are going to use when students are going for extra help during recess? notes/passes shown to teachers on duty?????
Thanks for bringing this up – this is something we’ll have to chat face-to-face on Friday. Not sure what the consensus will be.
